Christian Fassnacht has distanced himself from David Wagner's football, despite the former Norwich City head coach having brought him to Carrow Road.

Wagner masterminded Fassnacht's purchase from Young Boys in the summer of 2023, 16 months after working with him at the Swiss club.

He was then sacked by sporting director Ben Knapper at the end of the campaign, leaving the 30-year-old at the centre of uncertainty around the club's future and labelled with a 'Wagner's man' tag.

He says he didn't move to Norfolk just to reunite with his former boss, however, and is focused on making an impression under new Canaries chief Johannes Hoff Thorup.

"Of course I knew him from when I worked with him back in Switzerland," Fassnacht told the Pink Un of Wagner. "But he's not the only reason that I'm here at Norwich.

"Of course it's sad that he had to go. But no, I'm happy and I still feel like I'm a part of the team. I want to show that as soon as possible."

After a mixed first season in English football, the winger knows he can improve in yellow and green. He's confident he can do so, though, and is looking forward to attempting as much once back from an Achilles injury.

"To be honest, it was an average season from my side," he continued. "I know I can do 100pc better, for sure. It's not easy to perform on the highest level possible every time, but I'm trying to work on this.

"I've had enough time now to work on the mental part of the game, so hopefully when I'm back on the pitch I'll feel really confident and can show what I'm actually capable of.

"I think last season I had just a few games that I could say were really good and I showed my full potential. So hopefully I can do better this season."
