Kenny McLean says his drive for success with Scotland is fuelling his fine form at Norwich City.

The 32-year-old has made another positive start to the season after claiming the Canaries' fan-voted player of the year trophy last term, and has been rewarded with call-ups to both of his country's Nations League squads.

He's hoping to add to his 43 senior caps having become a stalwart of Steve Clarke's side, but wants to do so on merit rather than experience. That means good news for Norwich, with McLean focused on playing well at club level.

"I don't want to be here just because I've been here in the past," he said. "I want to continue to do as well as I can for Norwich, and then hopefully it keeps me in the manager's plans for as long as possible.

"I've always worked as hard as I can back at club level to be part of it, and that's all every player can do really.

"I'll keep doing as much as I can and I'll always be as available as I can for the manager. Then the decision is his."

The Croatia meeting on Saturday is an important one for the Tartan Army, who are currently bottom of their group after losing to Poland and Portugal last month.

McLean and his compatriots are "desperate" to set the record straight this weekend, as their mission continues to prove they belong at the top table.

"We'll keep working as hard as we can to get these results," continued the midfielder. "We're obviously against really, really good opposition, and that's where we want to be.

"We want to be pitting ourselves against the best, that's what we're doing. But the next step is to start getting these results, and we're desperate for them.

"It's not enough to just do well the previous year to get into this pot. We want to keep improving and start getting results against these nations, because that's the next step for us."
