Johannes Hoff Thorup has confirmed Emiliano Marcondes is close to becoming a Norwich City player and believes his characteristics will give them a different attacking option.

The versatile Danish forward is set to complete a free transfer to the Canaries today after agreeing a deal for the rest of the season with an option to extend by a further year.

City hope all the relevant paperwork will be completed in time for him to be included in the squad for tomorrow's clash against Hull at Carrow Road.

Norwich have swooped for Marcondes after a spate of attacking injuries and he will provide extra depth to Thorup's frontline options. The 29-year-old left Bournemouth in the summer and didn't pick up a club during the summer window.

The change in circumstance has sparked City's interest in a player Thorup worked with at Nordsjaelland in 2019 and has a close relationship with. He set out on Friday what Marcondes would bring to his team, provided a deal is completed as expected.

"Maybe his best characteristic is that he is a game-player," Thorup said. "You can see that he strives in games and likes the intensity to be involved with a lot of actions.

"He plays with a lot of intensity, likes to be in the box and intense in his pressing game. He would be a good player for us if we can get him into the team. He will give us some options up front and can cover different positions.

"He can play as a nine, a ten and a little bit on the left side. He could be of great value to us."

Thorup also knows Marcondes' personality and believes he will enhance City's group as a human being as well as outlining why he didn't form part of their summer window business.

"Sometimes, at least from what I know, we actually have to pull him in to say know it's done. That's good for an environment to have a player that wants to do a little bit extra and push the group. He has that personality.

"Like I said earlier in the window, our strategy was to reduce the average age a little bit. We managed to do that so he was maybe not a target for us at the beginning but now with the injury situation it could be a target for us."
