Experience will play a key role in Norwich City's new era under Johannes Hoff Thorup, former Canaries winger Elliott Bennett has insisted.

Johannes Hoff Thorup and Ben Knapper have worked to reduce the average age group of the side alongside implementing a new playing style to get City firing in the Championship.

Bennett, who won promotion with City in 2015, played with Shane Duffy and Grant Hanley during his time at Blackburn and predicts both will have major roles as Thorup tries to drive the Canaries forward.

"Everyone likes to have young, exciting players. I love watching them, but you have to have a core group of experienced players that know what the standards are," Bennett told the Pink Un.

"I'm not saying that experienced players don't play badly, but they know what the standards are for the football club in training, how you carry yourself and act around the place. When you have bad times in games, you need them to make others feel that it's okay.

"Those two have massive experience in the Premier League and Championship. Grant and Shane have played international football, and it'll be beneficial for Norwich for them to have a positive influence on a young group."

City are currently navigating the waters of change after a summer of churn amongst their playing squad.

Bennett feels that is inevitable in the circumstances but thinks the Canaries' pulling power to attract talent on their journey is a factor that could shorten their period of flux.

"It's a transitional period," he said. "The club had so many years of dominating the Championship, going into the Premier League and coming back down before going up again. With that, you get the exciting Championship winning seasons, and then you're in the Premier League, and it's hard.

Replacing them hasn't been done perfectly, but every club goes through periods and moments where they need to transition to something else.

"West Brom have been through that and look like they're going to be a strong outfit this season.

"All football clubs have them, and hopefully, Norwich can see it happen quicker and smoother than others. It's a big club and a lot of players would love the honour to play for Norwich, that will help to attract good players."
