Johannes Hoff Thorup rued the ‘silly goal’ that gifted Swansea City a 1-0 Championship win but insisted he must take his share of the blame for Norwich City’s lacklustre defeat.

Amankwah Forson diverted a cross past Angus Gunn after a series of individual errors in the build up to Swansea’s fourth minute winner.

The Danish head coach made his frustrations clear to his squad at the final whistle, but admitted he would also have to look at his own selection calls.

“Like everything we do, we do it together and I will be the last guy to sit here and blame people for performances,” he said. “It's us, and, you know, it's down to preparation and down to how we find the best possible positions and movements against the team that we're going to play against.

"Maybe we lacked a little bit of quality with movements and positions in the last third, and also we lacked quality in this finishing part. So it's for all of us to look and see how we can make sure that we are better next time.

“What annoys me the most is the performance, because we have high expectations and what we did, especially the first half, was not good enough. I think second half was okay, and we didn't concede many chances.

"That's positive in general when we play at the moment. But we have to look into how we can convert some of these chances that we create.”

Borja Sainz spurned four chances late on to salvage a point.

“He knows. There is no point in me telling them that,” said Thorup. “Everyone can see that we have to be more effective and show more quality up front so we at least get a point.

“It's a difficult one, because to try not to be too disrespectful, I think Swansea did well, I think they made a good performance. But we lost due to us and how we performed, especially the first half where we didn't have the control over the game, we didn't take care of our chances and we invited them in with, of course, a silly goal to begin with.

"Situations where I think we should have taken better care of the individual moments.

“(Was it basic errors?) That’s how it is. I actually think no matter how you perform, you can always concede a goal, and that how it is. It's about the response afterwards. We created two very good chances in the five to 10 minutes after they scored.

"Actually the response was good. What I didn't like is that it was too open, it was too much back and forth. We didn't have the control over the game, which I expect that we can, even when we go away.”
