Jose Cordoba's move to Norwich City saw the Panama international fulfil a lifelong aspiration of playing in England.

The defender joined the Canaries from Bulgarian side Levski Sofia and was the first of eight summer signings. He made his first competitive start in the Carabao Cup second-round defeat to Crystal Palace last week.

Cordoba arrived back from pre-season late after featuring in Panama's Copa America campaign before an injury setback ruled him out for City's opening games of the season.

Norwich beat a host of clubs to the signing of Cordoba, most notably Rangers, with a move to Carrow Road the 23-year-old's preference. He explained why moving to the Championship helped him fulfil his childhood dream.

"At the beginning, when I decided to play football, it was my dream to play in England. I think it was a great opportunity for me to join and make this step. It is the next step in my career to improve myself.

"It was easy for me to make the decision because I felt good about playing in England," Cordoba told the Pink Un

"I feel that [the playing style is a good fit]. As I said in my first interview, I like to be with the ball, be dominant and help the team with the position of the ball.

"The level is so different. I feel a lot of confidence in myself, and I think that I can get the rhythm quickly. There is a different timing here.

"I like the area. It is so calm, and there are no bad feelings. Everything is so nice, and the people are lovely. That's the way that I see Norwich. I like it."

Cordoba has been forced to show patience in recent weeks due to Callum Doyle's performances as a left-sided central defender but continues to push his claim for a spot in Johannes Hoff Thorup's starting line-up.

Working under the Dane has been received positively by Cordoba, who feels City can make a top-six challenge this season.

"The manager is so clear with his ideas, and he has told to us what he wants from the team but also the players," the Panamanian international said.

"I think that we keep improving, and we will be better. My expectation for this season is that I want to be in the team and qualify [for the play-offs]."
