Anis Ben Slimane will fit the bill for Norwich City, pledged Johannes Hoff Thorup, after the deadline day signing caught the eye in a winning 1-0 Championship debut at Coventry City.

The 23-year-old sealed a season long loan from Sheffield United that includes a buy clause, and was impressive during a second half introduction at the CBS Arena.

The Tunisian international midfielder’s calmness on the ball and physical presence helped ease Thorup to a first league win of his Canaries’ reign.

“He's used to the league. He's used to the culture and the country and everything,” said the Dane. “The physicality in it, especially, he's used to, and then he's a natural football player, so he's calm on the ball, even though he's under pressure, and can get out of some situations where you don't actually think it's possible.

“What he did to the team was actually what we needed, because we needed even more control in the second half. And he was a big part of a team where there was a lot of guys playing well, and particularly these 30 minutes at the start of second half.”

Slimane was joined at Carrow Road in the closing hours of Friday’s transfer deadline by Liverpool’s teenage winger, Kaide Gordon, who joined on a season long loan.

“He's more like a dribbler, and what we have at the moment on the right side is more runners and maybe type of players that are suited to run in the box and be a second striker model,” said Thorup. “So it gives us an option, a little bit like Borja (Sainz) on the left side.

"We have a player that can do a little bit of the same. So again, more options, and depending on the game and opposition and so on, it gives us these different attacking plans.

“I was (satisfied with deadline deals). I think the business we did on deadline day was what we needed. I was quite satisfied with the team, because I have this belief in the guys that we have here that it's just a matter of time before we see them take the next step and be even better in their performances. I'm satisfied with the group.

"But of course, we're always looking for how we can strengthen the squad, and I think we managed to do that on the final day.”
