Johannes Hoff Thorup is tipping Amankwah Forson to become a Norwich City crowd pleaser.
The 21-year-old midfielder was thrown in the deep end for his Canaries’ debut on the opening day of the Championship season at Oxford, after one training session, following his move from Red Bull Salzburg.
Forson then caught the eye in the 4-3 League Cup win over Stevenage and capped a busy period with a first league start against Blackburn.
City boss Thorup insisted the young midfielder is only getting started.
“I think that people will embrace a player like him, because he gives everything he has every time he's performing,” said the Dane. “He’s more or less just asking to play even more games and more minutes. A great attitude.
"That is what we spoke about before the Oxford game. Just go out and show your personality, show the quick feet where in those counter pressing situations he can take the ball and get out of situations where you think, ‘Okay that is not possible.’ He’s in a good place.
"Of course, we also need to take care of him. It’s a busy schedule and he is new to the league.”
Forson featured in the Champions League during his stint in Austria, but was desperate to join the Canaries.
“What was maybe the most important for us was the conversation we had with him, where he was really excited about coming here,” said Thorup. “He could really see that this was an important next step for him to take.
"He felt that we really had made a good plan for him, both for now but also for the future, and that was maybe the most important thing that we could see. You just had to listen to the guy, he was so excited about coming here, and that will always more or less make a good start.
"I hope you can see what he can add in terms of performance and contribution to the team. I think he already shown that in the first two games here after a good pre-season, to be fair, where he’d played some matches for Salzburg already.”
