Johannes Hoff Thorup is challenging his Norwich City side to show positivity to galvanise supporters in their Carrow Road bow against Blackburn Rovers tomorrow.

The Dane is seeking a reaction from his side after a disappointing opening day defeat to Championship newcomers Oxford United last weekend, but some optimism has cautiously returned after green shoots of progress in their League Cup victory over Stevenage in midweek.

Thorup is attempting to implement a playing style that is predicated on risk-taking, confidence and a positive attitude. That is something created through training and then executed in game situations.

As he marks his first league game at Carrow Road, he believes those are the ingredients required to win over his new supporters.

"It's about attitude, and we spoke about it with Forson before the game Tuesday night and said, 'Just go in with your attitude, play the way that you play. You go there to win the ball back when you lose it and play forward when you have the option.'

"That is what the crowd loves to see. So go in there and play with that attitude. That is what is important because we need all the support that we can get," Thorup said at his pre-match press conference.

"It is a fantastic stadium when everyone is behind us."

City will be hoping that mindset can fuel an improved performance after last weekend's setback.

For Thorup, there has been an renewed effort this week to raise standards and fix issues that emerged at the Kassam Stadium last Saturday as he attempts to get off the mark as Canaries boss with a victory over Blackburn.

"I'm always excited, especially when we play at home," City's boss said. "Like I've said now so many times, it's a fantastic stadium. I like the atmosphere; I like the intensity that there can be in that stadium.

"Scoring four goals on Tuesday night and hearing the celebrations was fantastic.

"What we have to make sure in training is that we prepare the guys in the best possible way so that they can go out there on Saturday afternoon and perform on a high level whilst showing an intensity that the crowds loves and supports. That's important."
