Josh Sargent is ‘100pc committed and focused’ on leading Norwich City’s Championship attack after transfer interest from the MLS.

The American window closed on Wednesday, with US international Sargent reportedly a target for clubs like St Louis and FC Cincinnati.

City chief Johannes Hoff Thorup confirmed there had been interest from his homeland this summer, but feels Sargent is ready to be a key figure in a new Carrow Road era.

The 24-year-old has also been linked with Premier League clubs, but ahead of the August 30 deadline City remain in the business of adding to their frontline following Adam Idah’s move to Celtic.

Turkish forward Bertuğ Yıldırım is one of a number of striker options who could join Sargent in Norfolk.

“I don't think we still have decided 100pc yet where we go, because we have some options,” said Thorup, speaking at Colney on Thursday afternoon. “What we have to look at is, of course, is what's going out of the building and do we need an exact same type of player, or how should we shape the team?

"And there's some different options for us, and there's some different ways to go for us. So we have a lot of meetings, and we have a lot of scouting, and we are watching a lot of players at the moment, and we are definitely in the market.

"I don’t make too many promises but I'm very close to making a promise that I think we will bring in some offensive players before the window closes. I cannot promise you when. I don’t think it is realistic to do that (before Blackburn).”

Sargent’s goals were crucial to City’s Championship play-off bid last season.

“He's 100pc focused, and he's a personality who is ambitious, but he's professional, and his behaviour is fantastic for the group, because he really wants everyone to perform on a highest level,” said Thorup.

“And he's really a guy who raises the bar for what we can do. I think where he is as a football player he would always perform, and I think his mindset is that he cannot affect what will happen (in a transfer window). The only thing he can do is to perform.

(Was there MLS interest in this window?) It is fair to say. At the end of the day we always have to plan for the day that every player is not here anymore. So of course, we do that. But I hope that he will stay here.

"I hope that he will be a part, a big part for us, in the in the season here, but you never know. But what I can say is that he's 100pc committed and focused.”
