Jack Stacey was delighted just to be back in the starting line-up as Norwich City drew 2-2 with West Brom.
The right-back was involved from the off for the first time in 11 games for the Canaries, replacing Jose Cordoba while Kellen Fisher moved to the left side of defence.
An assist on his return, combined with the one-game ban Fisher will serve as a result of his fifth yellow card of the season, also means that Stacey is likely to retain his place for tomorrow’s meeting with Plymouth Argyle at Carrow Road.
He was pleased to be given another chance in the XI after an entertaining draw with the Baggies, putting Johannes Hoff Thorup's trust down to work on the training pitch.
“Yeah, it’s nice! Obviously as a professional footballer what you want to do is play, so you worry if that isn’t the case,” he said. “But all you can do when you’re out of the team is make sure you’re ready for when an opportunity comes. Physically I felt good, and it was just nice to be back on the pitch.
“To be honest, you just have to tell yourself to control what you can control, and that’s looking after yourself physically, that’s trying to train to full capability.
“You want to keep frustrations away from the training ground, because you still want to have a positive influence around the place and make sure that when you come in you’re in a positive mindset. But like I said before, every footballer wants to play football.
“We have chats to be fair (him and head coach Thorup). Only 11 players can play, so the fact that we’ve had communication, I respect it. I respect his decision, and my only job is to try and change that decision when I do play.”
The 28-year-old provided a different threat to technically-focused Fisher in the West Midlands, offering an attacking drive that resulted in that assist.
He believes the difference in styles between he and the English youth international can only be a positive, with different options for City to choose from.
“Yeah, I’d like to think [it is a strength],” he continued. “I think the fact that you can have different styles of player means that when we play different teams or different formations that the manager’s able to change it up a little bit.
“Kellen’s been playing a little bit more inverted, I was probably used to playing higher up. We definitely both bring qualities to the game, different qualities, but qualities.”
