Norwich City have no interest in flogging Borja Sainz in the January transfer window.
The red hot 23-year-old attacker retained his Championship player-of-the-month crown recently, after producing 13 goal contributions in his first 15 league games this season.
Spanish trio Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and first club Athletic Bilbao, along with Gabby Sara’s Galatasaray, have all been touted as suitors.
Sporting director Ben Knapper told the club’s annual meeting exploratory contract discussions are on-going with Sainz’s camp for a player who has 18 months left on his Carrow Road deal.
But City chief Mark Attanasio insists the Canaries will call the shots.
“We don't need to sell Borja in January. Frankly, we don't need to sell them ever,” he said. “We can control what we can control, in regards what happens to our players.
"It's just at some point there's an element of fairness, if I understand the ecosystem, where if you're getting offered a very fair price, and it doesn't have to be an extreme price, and it's something that someone wants to do then you have to look at it.
“Borja’s been great for us, right? I was meeting lots of people on this trip and (at Colney) there's a chart for all the players and appearances they've made. Nobody in this club has made more appearances than Borja Sainz.
"I said to the people there, ‘Wow, that's great because he's working really hard. Does he ever say no when it comes to hard work?’ He is a great character, and if at some point he wants to move on then you look at that. But, you know, January would be a little a little too early for us, I think.”
Knapper reiterated Sainz remains a key part of Johannes Hoff Thorup’s squad ahead of the second half of the Dane’s Championship debut tour.
“Borja is clearly a fantastic player. We all love him,” said Knapper, in response to a question from a shareholder on Sainz’s contract status. “We are in conversations at the moment with his representatives to explore all options around his contract.
"Those are on-going. But it is a situation we are trying to address to find a good outcome for us.”
