Norwich are without suspended captain Kenny McLean after his dismissal against Boro last Sunday for scything down Hayden Hackney in the 87th minute. The Scot is also facing an FA charge for misconduct.
Angus Gunn, Marcelino Nunez, Onel Hernandez, Liam Gibbs and Ashley Barnes all remain sidelined and are expected to miss the remaining games before the upcoming November international break.
City are boosted by the return of wingers Christian Fassnacht and Tony Springett - but Thorup will still need to find solutions to the holes within his squad with several key players sidelined.
Since Omer Riza was placed in interim charge following Erol Bulut's dismissal in September, only Sunderland (13) and Leeds (12) have taken more points in the six games overseen by the 44-year-old with talks around his future planned.
Cardiff are without Perry Ng who is serving a suspension, whilst Callum Robinson is a major doubt for this afternoon's game.
The Bluebirds will also be without midfield duo Joe Ralls and Aaron Ramsey. Riza also ruled Isaak Davies and Kion Etete out of contention for the Canaries' visit to South Wales. Ryotaro Tsunoda has returned to training but is lacking in match sharpness.
It was a trip to the Welsh capital last season that proved to be the turning point in City's Championship campaign.
A late double from Adam Idah rescued a 3-2 victory for injury-hit Norwich and potentially kept then-head coach David Wagner in post, and City then enjoyed a remarkable surge to the top six.
