Kenny McLean was left with an overriding sense of frustration at Norwich City's self-inflicted false start despite a spirited comeback against Preston.

City found themselves 2-0 down inside the opening 12 minutes at Deepdale after two unforced errors led to the opening goals, but recovered enough to rescue a point courtesy of goals from Borja Sainz and Shane Duffy either side of half time.

The Scot was left reflecting on what might have been after in-form Preston punished a sloppy opening to the contest with misplaced passes at the heart of City's early issues.

"It was a bit chaotic at times, and we were at fault for our own downfall during the early part of the game," McLean reflected. "Even in the second half, we gave a few big chances away, and it's all down to us.

"The good thing is that it means that we can fix and work on it to eradicate the mistakes otherwise you're going to get punished at this level, and we've shown that tonight.

"I don't think they outdone us in any tactical way or opened us up, it was totally our own mistakes. It creeps into the game and the crowd get behind them. It makes a difference. When we come away, we really need to frustrate opposition players and their fans.

"We gave ourselves a mountain to climb. Frustration, but we showed great character to come back to get something from the game."

McLean was quick to heap praise on Johannes Hoff Thorup's half-time changes that helped complete their comeback, but was still left ruing some collective errors that prevented City from assuming complete control.

We could have got more," he said.

"We got the first goal at a good time, got in, and the manager was very calm; you can see that in his personality; it's about 'How can I help the lads?'.

"He tweaked things and we got a bit of control but also a bit desperate by opening up and not controlling it in their own half as much. Positives there but there are plenty to work on."
