Paddy Davitt rates Johannes Hoff Thorup’s Norwich City, who were full value for a first half lead but were unable to pick up the pace again after Stoke’s equaliser.

George Long            6

First league start since November 28 last year in the absence of Angus Gunn. Made a couple of sprawling stops going full length to keep out angled strikes from Tom Cannon and Andrew Moran.

But questions asked on his positioning, and how far he was off his line, for Million Manhoef’s curling equaliser whipped around Callum Doyle.

Great starting position to race out and clear in front of Cannon in the 36th minute after denying the Stoke frontman three minutes in.

Thwarted Moran in the 63rd minute and had to tip over Josh Sargent’s miscued defensive clearance at his near post.

Kellen Fisher            6

Not quite the focal presence in possession of recent games stepping into those midfield pockets. Diverted a ball back to Long with Manhoef tumbling over his challenge in the quest for a soft penalty.

Crunched Bae Junho after his initial poor control sparked a Stoke turnover. Hit the first man when found by a slaloming Anis Ben Slimane run to attack the Potters' box. Dink cross seconds later was pawed over his bar by Johansson.

Shane Duffy             7

Excellent reading of the game defensively to front up Cannon and a get a block on his first half shot. Then later in the half a similar sense of danger halted Enda Stevens on the overlap. Superb threaded release for Crnac to turn in central midfield, but the Croatian dallied enough to be dispossessed.

Jose Cordoba                     7

No signs of that knee issue which saw him sit out his country's two recent friendlies. Although did exit before the end with cramp. Looked a Potters plan to drop the ball in behind the Panamanian, down his defensive channel, to exploit the pace of Cannon.

Needed George Long to be alert in the third minute when Cannon escaped before unleashing an angled strike. A couple of key interceptions to halt Stoke counters. Brings that composure to build the play from deep even with Stoke pressing high in spells.

Callum Doyle            6

Attracted inside to try and deal with Wouter Burger and then unable to close down Manhoef quickly enough for the whipped leveller. Flicked on Jose Cordoba’s ball to release Sargent but the American opted for a shot with Doyle bursting into the area on the overlap.

Controlled Kenny McLean’s pass and had the presence to reverse the ball for Borja Sainz to test Viktor Johansson at his near post. Invited forward by Emi Marcondes before slamming a rising shot into the side netting.

Kenny McLean         7

Towering header kept out by the scrambling Johansson. Involved in the majority of Norwich’s brighter attacking work prior to the interval. Linked with Marcelino Nunez and Slimane to work in Sargent. Nunez foiled by Johansson from close range in the 22nd minute was a move sourced by McLean.

Then rose to meet the Chilean's corner two minutes later but the Swede went diving to his left to keep out the header. Burst through the middle two more minutes later but choked his low, left footed effort. Plenty of composure to swerve away from the edge of his own area to release Kellen Fisher.

Drifting angled ball for Ante Crnac, who tried to force this way through his marker without success. Then another pinpoint ball snapped into Doyle to release Sainz to test Johansson.

Marcelino Nunez     7

Anxious wait ahead on the fitness front. Norwich might not be as fortunate this time around with Nunez’s hamstring issue, after he was able to return to training on Thursday following his withdrawal from Chile's recent internationals.

Dropped to the turf in the 30th minute with what his head coach confirmed afterwards was more of the same problems that surfaced early in the previous Hull win.

Found pockets to get on the half-turn in that first half to release Sargent and Slimane. Trigger run spotted by the Tunisian international in the 22nd minute, but Johansson brilliantly kept out his stabbed effort and he bundled the rebound wide. From the corner bent in a delivery McLean headed goalwards.

Anis Ben Slimane                7

Quality operator. Quick feet led eventually to Crnac’s opening goal. Forced wide in the seventh minute but won a corner after linking with Nunez and Sargent. Lovely weight on the chip and the awareness to spot Nunez’s run midway through the first half.

Fisher needed to do better when found after a slaloming run towards the right back. Clever dribble initially worked a shooting chance for Sargent and Oscar Schwartau, which eventually landed at the feet of Crnac.

Ante Crnac                7

Big moment with his first Norwich goal. Left unmarked but had plenty to do with his technique to slam a half-volley into the ground and past Johansson. Early bursts with Fisher that brought mixed results in the final third. Dallied when he had space to exploit after being found by Shane Duffy on a promising counter.

Josh Sargent            6

Long trips to America and Mexico and only back into camp on Thursday. Usual endeavour but his worked lacked the precision we come to associate with the star striker. Typified in the third minute with a careless heavy touch after Long, McLean, Nunez and Slimane had worked the space.

Following up at the back post when McLean’s header was parried but the shot was deflected. Awarded an assist but did not know much about Schwartau’s rocket, which brushed his head to drop invitingly for Crnac.

Best sighter came in the 53rd  minute, when released by Doyle, but his shot was deflected behind with the Manchester City loanee perhaps a better option arriving late in the Stoke penalty box.

Borja Sainz               6

Pelach did his homework with his fellow Spaniard well-patrolled for large spells. Corner routine with Nunez but Johansson was out to claim.

Broke out in the 16th minute, but Michael Rose produced a perfectly-timed tackle. Key role in the Norwich goal with the shovel back for Schwartau. Right footer at Johansson in the 59th minute. Tried his luck again but effort was deflected in the 81st minute, when he collected from Ben Chrisene and went for that trademark out to in move across the penalty area.

Subs

Oscar Schwartau (for Nunez, 43)             6

Attacking instincts underlined when he was on the edge of the box to try his luck from Sainz’s set but pulled a shot against Sargent that landed fortuitously for Crnac to finish.

Dragged a half-volley wide from just outside the angle of the six yard box shortly after replacing Nunez. Speculative chip floated towards Johansson when in a good attacking position in the 52nd minute.

Emi Marcondes (for Slimane, 65)              6

Added some much-needed composure to help City navigate a strong Stoke start to the second half. Invited Doyle forward in the 69th minute to unleash a rising shot into the side netting.

Amankwah Forson (for Crnac, 65)                        5

Jack Stacey (for Fisher, 79)                       5

Ben Chrisene (for Cordoba, 80)                n/a

Turned out of trouble in midfield to link with Sainz, who squared up his marker and rifled goalwards but the shot was deflected behind.
