Callum Doyle was on target for England U21s in their comprehensive 7-0 rout of Azerbaijan in their Euro qualifier on Tuesday night.

The Norwich City defender, on loan from Manchester City, rose to meet Alex Scott's deep cross at the far post to nod the ball beyond Khayal Farzullayev for the Young Lions second goal of the evening.

It marks Doyle's fifth England U21 appearance with only his second goal since being pushed up from the U20s last year.

Charlie Cresswell, James McAtee, Dane Scarlett, Omari Hutchinson and Elliot Anderson were also among the goals in a comfortable night for the hosts at Ashton Gate.

The on-loan City defender missed the Young Lions' 2-1 victory over Ukraine on Friday night owing to muscle tightness but was passed fit to feature in their final game of the October break.

Doyle was eventually replaced on 70 minutes by Brighton's Jack Hinshelwood and will now return to Colney to prepare for City's Championship trip to Stoke on Saturday. England U21s, managed by Ben Futcher on an interim basis whilst Lee Carsley steps up to the senior squad, top Group F ahead of next summer's tournament in Slovakia.

Experienced Canaries duo Grant Hanley and Kenny McLean played a key role in Scotland's firm defensive resolve to hold Portugal to a goalless draw in the Nations League at Hampden Park.

Hanley formed part of a backline responsible for marshalling Cristiano Ronaldo and, whilst it required some last-ditch defending at points, ensured Steve Clarke's men secured a welcome point and clean sheet in their Group A game to keep their survival prospects alive.

City goalkeeper Angus Gunn withdrew from the squad at the start of the October international window with a muscular issue and was replaced between the sticks by veteran Craig Gordon.

Former City loanee Billy Gilmour partnered McLean in central midfield, and the pair helped Scotland withstand intense pressure throughout the contest.

The draw gifts Scotland their first point of the Nations League campaign and ends a run of four straight defeats. They will face Croatia before a vital trip to Poland in their final Nations League matches in the upcoming November international window.

Elsewhere, Ante Crnac was a 64th-minute substitute for Croatia U21s in their 3-2 Euro qualifying victory over Greece.

The City attacker replaced Lukas Kacavenda and was on the pitch for Croatia's late winner courtesy of soon-to-be Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic.

Oscar Schwartau featured for Denmark U19s in their 3-1 friendly over Belgium played in Marbella on Tuesday lunchtime.

The teenager played 62 minutes in the victory before being replaced by Nikolaj Juul-Sandberg. He will now return to Colney as a possible candidate to replace injured Marcelino Nunez should he be officially ruled out of the City squad to face Stoke on Saturday.
