Shane Duffy is unsure of his international future with the Republic of Ireland but is utilising his free international breaks to help him maintain his impressive club form at Norwich City.

The experienced defender has been missing from the last two international camps and last represented his country in a 2-1 friendly victory over Hungary in June.

Duffy has made 61 appearances since his debut over a decade ago in 2014, but doesn't appear to be in the plans of new Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson.

The City defender, along with Everton full-back Seamus Coleman, are two experienced options overlooked by the new Ireland boss, but Duffy is opting to view the situation positively to help him use the breaks to rest and prepare for the gruelling Championship schedule.

"I'm in between at the minute. I'm really enjoying the rest and family time. I've been playing for Ireland for over 10 years and now I've got two weeks where I can rest my body after playing three games in a week.

"Obviously, I'll never say no to Ireland but I think the new manager is going in a new direction a little bit and wants to try out new players," Duffy told the Pink Un

"I've got to keep going, but I'm not sure on the future. It's not a decision that I've made yet."

Duffy has formed a key part of Johannes Hoff Thorup's revolution since his arrival at Carrow Road, and the 32-year-old has rediscovered his form in the Championship.

After a turbulent debut year at the club on and off the pitch, Duffy is determined to make his second in Norfolk a success.

"I've come back this year with a point to prove that I can play in this team under this manager and I set myself a little goal to be better. I feel a lot more confident and comfortable.

"I've got used to the club, the stadium and the fanbase. Hopefully, it's all upwards from now. I've had too many downs here."
