Norwich City goalkeeper George Long has extended his Carrow Road stay by signing a new three-year contract.

The 30-year-old was due to leave the club as a free agent next summer when his previous deal ran out, with a club option to take that to 2026.

Sporting director Ben Knapper has instead agreed a new contract with the club's current second-choice stopper, however, meaning he's tied down until the summer of 2027.

Long told official club channels: "I'm really delighted to be staying here. It's a fantastic club going in a great direction, and such an exciting time to be a player here.

"It's really positive, we've got a lot of fresh faces, young lads coming into the team. But it's starting to click now, and we've picked up some really good results."

Knapper cited the former Millwall man's professionalism and improvement as the reasons behind the contract, praising his work ethic behind the scenes.

"We’re really pleased to extend George’s stay with us," he added. "He has been steadily improving for some time now, and he’s a valued member of our squad.

"He suits our playing style well, is important for our culture and generally has a really positive influence on our group.

"He is a model professional, and his drive to constantly improve and to push every single day embodies everything that we stand for."

Long has been comfortably behind fellow keeper Angus Gunn since arriving from the Lions in the summer of 2023, making just seven Championship appearances for Norwich when the Scottish international was injured last term.

Talk around Gunn's own contract continues, with his current deal ending next summer and no club option to extend. Head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup said Knapper was 'on the case' in a recent press conference, while the 28-year-old has insisted on letting his football do the talking.

Long has played 14 games for City in all competitions, claiming two clean sheets since being signed to replace Tim Krul.
