Callum Doyle is making his impact felt at Norwich City as Angus Gunn praised his start to life in Norfolk.

The Manchester City defender has quickly become a fan favourite and emerged as a key player in Johannes Hoff Thorup's tactical system.

Doyle has been ever-present for City in the Championship, operating both as a central defender and a left-back. The youngster has shined in both roles when combining his full-blooded playing style with a composed ability on the ball.

Despite high emotions during his return to the CBS Arena, Gunn was full of compliments for how he has adapted to life at Norwich.

"He's been quality since he's come in," Gunn said. "He's played here (at Coventry) before and wasn't afraid to get stuck in and give a bit back to the fans, which was good to see.

"For such a young lad, his temperament is great. I told him at half-time to control it but keep the same aggression because I thought they were going to try to get at him in the second half, but he controlled it great.

"Ever since he came in, he has been brilliant, and he's a really great signing for us.

"The way he plays suits us and the way the manager sees the game. He's been pivotal in building us up from the back and he's helped everyone around him as well.

"Coming from the Manchester City system, you'd expect that, and he hasn't disappointed."

Doyle, alongside Gunn, was a key part of City's backline that kept its first clean sheet of the campaign after some criticism of its defensive work in recent weeks.

That outcome in the Midlands is a result of the hard work that has been ongoing behind closed doors alongside City's coaching staff.

"We've been working hard on the backline and concentrating on ourselves and being more solid. I thought we were today," Gunn said after Saturday's win over Coventry.

"We've worked on everything, not just positionally or tactically but the mental side as well. I think you'd see when those big blocks or tackles were being made that we celebrated together. That is something the coaching team have been on at us about.

"We want to enjoy the moments where we do really well and build that confidence throughout the team."
