Abu Kamara has been given permission to travel to London to undergo a medical after Hull and Norwich City agreed a deal in principle for the winger.
That offer, understood to be a package that could rise to £5m, has been agreed between the clubs but is conditional on the Canaries sourcing a replacement before tonight's 11pm deadline.
City hope for that to be permanent and they will now enact their plan to source a replacement for the winger, who submitted a transfer request earlier this month.
Luton Town and Oxford have also made bids for Kamara in the last week, but Hull have been both Kamara's preference and the frontrunners throughout the chase
City have made a habit of ensuring any departure is on their terms this summer, with sporting director Ben Knapper keen to receive value for their talent. The deals that saw Gabriel Sara, Adam Idah and Jonathan Rowe exit Carrow Road are all examples of this strategy.
Thorup confirmed at Thursday’s press conference that if no deal gets completed before 11pm tonight, that Kamara will be reintegrated into their first team squad - but all parties are now confident of the transfer being completed.
“He's been training with the group the whole time, so there's nothing there like he's out of shape or we need to bring him back to match fitness," he said.
"No, he's there and he's ready. And of course, maybe he will be disappointed, but that's how it is as a football player, being on a contract and, it might be hard words, but you have to do your job."
Norwich are closing in on a loan to buy deal for Sheffield United midfielder Anis Slimane that would become an obligation should certain criteria be met during his time in Norfolk.
City are also expecting to seal the transfer of young Dundee United forward Brandon Forbes as an addition for their development squad.
Others, such as Ken Aboh, could depart on loan. League Two clubs MK Dons, Port Vale and Notts County are all interested.
