Norwich City legend Grant Holt is part of a consortium to form a “new strategic relationship” with Dereham Town. 

The consortium, which also involves a group of other local businessmen, will be advising the Magpies’ existing committee with the aim of providing a long-term strategy and sustainability. 

A club statement said: “The consortium’s aim will be to protect the long-term security of the club from a financial perspective and deliver a new strategic focus to allow it to grow and succeed on and off the pitch.” 

Ex-City striker Holt, who made 168 appearances for Norwich, scoring 78 goals, is relishing the opportunity to help shape the future direction of the club.  
 
“I began my career playing in non-league and I know the importance of preserving these clubs and the value of the role that they play in the community.  
 
“I’m a passionate advocate for local football in Norfolk and there are few sides with the potential that Dereham Town FC possesses. I look forward to bringing my expertise into the club - both from my playing career and work within the game after my retirement.  
 
“The consortium is a really exciting mix of extremely talented and experienced people from the Norfolk business community who will work to develop the future of Dereham Town FC and make it a more sustainable and, hopefully, successful club in the future.  
 
“I look forward to meeting supporters at Aldiss Park in the future and am really excited about this new opportunity.”  
 
Interim Dereham chairman Dale Cason added: “Everyone at Dereham Town FC is really excited about this new agreement, designed to help improve the short-term financial picture at the club and secure its viability in the community for the long term.  
 
“We believe this new strategy will help us progress on and off the pitch in the short, medium and long term.  
 
“The opportunity to work with talented, enthusiastic and experienced local people was a no-brainer for our committee - and we hope this is the first step towards a bright new chapter at Aldiss Park."
