David Wagner previewed Norwich City’s Championship trip to Preston - and we had all the key lines first direct from Colney.

The new Canaries' chief takes charge of his first league game since being unveiled as Dean Smith's successor at Carrow Road.

Wagner oversaw the 1-0 FA Cup third round defeat to Blackburn, but has been brought in to get 11th-placed City into the promotion mix.

The German confirmed Todd Cantwell is unavailable this weekend 'to speak to other clubs' about his future. The midfielder was heavily linked with Rangers and another Championship club in the past week.

Cantwell is out of contract at the end of this season.

Josh Sargent returns to the group after time off following his World Cup schedule. Wagner indicated he would be the only addition to his FA Cup roster.

Ben Gibson (calf) and Sam Byram (hamstring) remaing out. Gibson is targeting a return to training next week. Byram could be out for 'six to eight' weeks but requires further assessment. Wagner did confirm there has been no surgery.

Wagner also clarified the situation and the longer term status of Newcastle loanee Isaac Hayden, who has undergone further knee surgery.

City have no option to terminate the loan this month but Wagner is hopeful the midfielder can return for the 'closing weeks of the season'.

Jacob Ramsey returned to Aston Villa after a knee operation prompted the clubs to cancel his season long loan.

Wagner and City's medical staff are still in the process of assessing Przemyslaw Placheta, who returned this week from his loan spell at Birmingham, but has not featured since August with a shin injury.

Jon Rowe is a longer term absentee, after ankle surgery in December, that will keep him out for a minimum of two months.
