Norwich City begin their quest to end a roller-coaster season on a high when they kick off the Championship play-offs tomorrow.
Past and present meet as former boss Daniel Farke brings his Leeds side to Carrow Road to try and outwit City head coach David Wagner, who has taken fans through a journey of contrasting footballing emotions this season.
For City, the task is clear: build up a good lead to take to Elland Road for the second leg on Thursday.
For Leeds, it may be about trying to revive a season that promised so many riches, but in the end delivered only a play-off lottery ticket.
Wagner piled the pressure on the visitors during his pre-match media briefing, saying City were clear underdogs, and that Leeds might have been on the beach already, had they not suffered a major slump in form at the tail end of the regular season.
And he insists City’s two regular season defeats to Leeds have no bearing on tomorrow’s game.
“Yes, we played them twice, yes, we conceded two narrow defeats against them. Does it count for Sunday or for Thursday? No - totally irrelevant and this is something which is not important,” said Wagner.
“What it means is everyone knows more or less everything about the opponent and it plays a big, big part obviously to be very focused on the details to make sure you have the right mindset and this is where we really work on.”
City’s build-up hasn’t been without its problems, with the experienced Ashley Barnes missing through injury and central defender Shane Duffy’s participation thrown into doubt after he was charged with drink driving earlier this week.
Duffy is available tomorrow, with Wagner was eager to put that part of the preparations into the background.
Instead, he wants to see Carrow Road a sea of yellow, with a repeat of the atmosphere that saw them despatch Ipswich last month.
“To be fair, I'm the last one who gives some advice to our supporters,” he said. “They know 100pc the importance of the game. They should embrace this occasion as well… I don't have give any advice - after the Ipswich game which we played I have every trust and belief in them that they know exactly which kind of atmosphere we need to be successful.”
