Marcelino Nunez makes the bench after recovering from a hip injury, with the visitors able to leapfrog Hull into the top six with a win in the north east.
Shane Duffy is absent with a muscle injury expected to keep him out until the international break, while Onel Hernandez saw his season cut short earlier this week by a broken foot in training.
Jonathan Rowe will be out until April with a hamstring injury, leaving only Borja Sainz and Christian Fassnacht as regular first-team wingers.
Former City midfielder Jonny Howson has recovered from injury in time to start for the home side.
