Norwich City Under-21s were beaten 2-0 at Sunderland in their opening game of the Premier League 2 season.

New City keeper Vicente Reyes was called into action early on before the hosts went ahead through Ellis Taylor on 13 minutes.

Finley Welch's mazy run led to Ken Aboh having a shot saved well by the Sunderland goalkeeper, although Harrison Jones wasted a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 when he fired over from close range.

Norwich began the second half on the front foot, with Aboh and Adian Manning producing efforts.

Welch appealed for a penalty late on after going down under challenge, but the referee was unmoved.

Sunderland sealed the win five minutes from time from the penalty spot, Taylor sending Reyes the wrong way.

Alan Neilson's side return to PL2 action on Friday night, hosting Nottingham Forest at the Lotus Training Centre.
