Christos Tzolis is down the pecking order at Norwich City, with the Greek’s short term future again up in the air at Carrow Road.

The 21-year-old was a notable absentee from the matchday squad for the pre-season finale against Olympiacos.

Tzolis was on development duty at Brighton, after a limited number of minutes for head coach David Wagner during City’s summer build up under ahead of the Championship kick-off.

The former highly-rated winger, who remains under contract with the Canaries until 2025, spent part of last season on loan in the Netherlands.

“At the end of the day I think it's quite clear that in the wide positions we have different options,” said the City chief, who signed Borja Sainz and Christian Fassnacht this summer. “With Farsi, he is a different type of player we signed, Johnny Rowe is a young dynamic wide player. Tony Springett has done very well in pre-season, with his energy and attitude, and obviously Onel (Hernandez) we love him.

"So we have options in wide areas and obviously for Christos it looks not as easy at this moment, and we have to see what will happen until the end of the window.

“I wanted to give Christos 90 minutes and this was not possible in the game at Carrow Road. This is why I decided that he played for the under 21s, in Brighton, like Jaden Warner who was also with us in Austria.

"I want to make sure that every player gets, if possible 90 minutes or 80 minutes in a game by the end of pre-season. I think we've done this with Christos now.”

The Pink Un: Milot Rashica and Max Aarons watched Norwich City's 2-0 friendly win against Olympiacos

Milot Rashica and Max Aarons had a watching brief at Carrow Road, after returning to the camp just before the Austrian training trip, with fresh reports in Turkey Rashica may get his wish to return to Galatasaray in the coming days.

“Obviously, we all know what the rumours are, but they are our players. We will work with them and we will see what the transfer window will bring,” said Wagner.

“Both Max and Milot now have to catch up in terms of their fitness. They trained with us for a big part of training in Austria, and we have to assess it every week from here.”

Jacob Sorensen is set to return to training at the end of the coming week, after groin issues limited his game time in the closing period of pre-season.

“Luckily, it looks like that it isn't as serious as it could be. This means we hope that he is back in training end of the week,” said Wagner, who also provided a positive fitness bulletin on Jonathan Tomkinson, after his recent ankle injury against Kaiserslautern.

“Unfortunately, now he has missed most of the last three pre-season matches. But it isn't as serious and if he is back in training this week then it is not too bad.

“Tomkinson is not going to be as long out as we thought at the beginning. So we have the hope that he is back in the next four to six weeks.”
