Vicente Reyes is aiming high at Norwich City, but the Chilean Under-20 keeper wants to put down an early marker to impress David Wagner in pre-season.

Reyes revealed reaching the Premier League and becoming his country’s number one are his long term goals, after the 19-year-old moved to Carrow Road from MLS club Atlanta United.

The teenager has confirmed he will be part of City’s squad for pre-season, and the rest is then up to him.

Scottish international Angus Gunn is due to return to training from next week after his summer involvement in the Euro2024 qualifiers. Tim Krul is the other senior option following the departure of Michael McGovern.

Reyes’ arrival bolsters a group of younger prospects who include Archie Mair, Dan Barden and Jon McCracken.

“When I arrived they told me that there is no immediate plan, but I will be with the squad in the pre-season. I will be with them and I think it just depends on me,” he said. “I am training hard every day, focusing on what is mine and if I have to play one day I will always be ready.

"Here I am learning much more. It will be difficult, but I think that playing here I can do well.

“I want to reach the Premier League with them. I want to stay in Europe as long as I can. Then maybe one day play for Unión Española or Deportes Concepción (Chilean clubs) for my mother, but I have never thought about it.”

Reyes, speaking to Chilean radio station ADN, confirmed compatriot and new club mate Marcelino Nunez had gone out of his way to help him settle in.

“Marcelino is already a great friend,” said Reyes, who was born in the US but opted to represent the country of his parents at international level. “He arrived from his vacation, because he was in the national team, and he was waiting for me in the dressing room and when I arrived he asked me ‘Do I speak Chilean or not' and then we started talking.

"He perhaps thought that he did not speak Spanish, but I understand everything.”

Reyes impressed in the Under-20 South American Championships earlier this year, and was previously part of Chile’s squad at the U17 World Cup.
