Norwich City are competing with Paris Saint-Germain and PSV Eindhoven for the signature of Brazilian midfielder Rodriguinho, according to reports in Brazil.

Sao Paulo blog have claimed that six clubs have sent scouts to watch the 19-year-old, including from Spain and the MLS.

Matching the financial muscle of clubs like PSG would be a difficult task for the Norfolk side, but they could offer a simpler first-team pathway to a player emerging as a bright talent in South America.

Rodriguinho is yet to start a senior league game for Sao Paulo, but has made eight senior appearances and was praised for his starring substitute role in Thursday's win over Athletico Paranaense.

City signed his compatriot Gabriel Sara from the same club last summer for an initial £6million, with Sara going on to win the Canaries' player of the season award for the 2022-23 season.

Marcelino Nunez was also recruited from the South American market when he arrived from Chilean side Universidad Catolica for around £3.3million, and the club are known to retain a strong scouting presence in the continent.

Nathan, a Brazilian full-back who also plays for Sao Paulo, was linked with a move to Carrow Road recently, as was Corinthians winger Gustavo Silva.

Norwich are also closing on their second Chilean signing in goalkeeper Vicente Reyes, who is expected to join up with Alan Neilson's under-21 squad initially. The club have also started a professional link-up with Brazilian side Coritiba.

Rodriguinho would become the third former Sao Paulo player to move to NR1 in less than 12 months, after Sara's former team-mate Marquinhos arrived on loan from Arsenal for the second half of last term.

Sara recently returned to Sao Paulo on a visiting trip, and is the subject of a 10pc sell-on clause if he were to leave City for a profit.

David Wagner's side have already confirmed three senior signings in Ashley Barnes, Jack Stacey and Shane Duffy, with 22-year-old Spanish winger Borja Sainz expected to become their fourth.

His move is at the paperwork stage at present, but is close to being completed.
