Norwich City have joined Luton Town and local rivals Ipswich in the race to sign Rotherham United winger Chiedozie Ogbene.

The Irishman is out of contract with the Millers this summer, but has been offered a new deal to remain at the New York Stadium.

Chances of him remaining in Yorkshire appear limited, however, with clubs from both the Premier League and Championship showing an interest according to reports from the Sheffield Star.

They claim that Sheffield Wednesday have a long-held interest in the 26-year-old, but face competition from sides including Plymouth Argyle and the Canaries.

Cash-strapped City have been keen to utilise the free agent market this summer, with all three of the signings they’ve confirmed so far arriving upon the expiration of their deals elsewhere.

Ogbene played 42 games for Matt Taylor’s side last season, scoring nine goals and claiming four assists in all competitions.

The Nigerian-born forward signed for Rotherham from Brentford in 2019 after 18 months and just six league games with the London side, who signed him from League of Ireland club Limerick in 2018.

He would be the fourth Irish international in the Norwich dressing room, with recent signing Shane Duffy adding to young duo Andrew Omobamidele and Adam Idah.

Ogbene has earned 15 caps since his debut in May 2021, scoring four times and playing with all three Canaries in the Ireland setup.

City are likely to add in wide areas, with £8.8million signing Milot Rashica set to depart this summer and Arsenal loan export Marquinhos having already returned to the Gunners at the end of last season.

Cuban winger Onel Hernandez was awarded a new contract as the 2022-23 campaign drew to a close, while Christos Tzolis and Przemyslaw Placheta are yet to make their mark since arriving in 2021 and 2020 respectively.

Fringe flank men Danel Sinani and Josh Martin will also leave the club when their current deals expire on July 1, as will Kieran Dowell, who regularly operated from the right side and has chosen to join Glasgow Rangers rather than signing a new contract at Carrow Road.
