Ex-Norwich City boss Dean Smith has suffered his second successive Premier League relegation after his Leicester side failed to survive on the final day of the season.

The former Canaries head coach replaced Brendan Rodgers in April on a temporary basis and, despite recording a 2-1 victory over West Ham, were relegated due to Everton's win over Bournemouth at Goodison Park.

Smith was sacked as Norwich boss in December after losing the confidence of supporters and a dip in form - ending a 13-month spell in Norfolk after his appointment in November 2021.

A Boxing Day defeat to Luton sealed his fate - but he found himself back in the Premier League despite struggling to bring success to Carrow Road either in their efforts to remain in the Premier League or push them towards a Championship promotion.

He won just two of his eight games in charge at the King Power Stadium - drawing three and losing three.

Smith's future will now be up for discussion having only signed a deal at Leicester until the end of the season. He was joined by assistant Craig Shakespeare, who was also at Norwich, and John Terry at the King Power.

Despite ending the season with victory courtesy of goals from Harvey Barnes and Wout Faes - their fate was sealed by Abdoulaye Doucoure's second half strike ensuring it was Everton who survived.

Leicester's relegation will likely spell the end of James Maddison's time at the club. Speculation surrounding him is increasing, with Norwich retaining a sell on fee that would see them entitled to 15pc of profit made on any deal that sees the England international leave this summer.

Norwich will also be facing Leeds United after their relegation was confirmed with a 4-1 final day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Leicester and Leeds join Southampton in dropping out of the Premier League - with Russell Martin set to be appointed as the next head coach at St Mary's.

The make-up of the Championship will be confirmed on Bank Holiday Monday with Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley competing for the final spot in the second tier in the League One play-off final.

Norwich's Championship fixtures will be released on June 22.
