Last week, we published a big Norwich City survey canvassing the opinion of supporters on a range of issues from recruitment to confidence ahead of next season.

1,000 Canaries supporters provided us with their views on the questions that matter as Norwich seek to churn their squad ahead of the new Championship campaign.

A 13th-placed finish left many questions for sporting director Stuart Webber to answer - which he did earlier this month.

Here are the results of that survey starting with the small matter of recruitment with the summer transfer window on everyone's minds.

Recruitment

Norwich City are embarking on a busy summer of recruitment to refresh their squad following last season's underwhelming conclusion.

They have already moved to sign experienced striker Ashley Barnes on a free from Championship title-winners Burnley.

One question in the survey revolved around the 33-year-old's addition - with 60.3pc happy with his arrival compared to 10.6pc who aren't and a bigger majority, 29.1pc, that require convincing.

Barnes is just the first piece of what is anticipated to be a hectic window of player trading for the Canaries.

When asked for their transfer priority this window, City fans voted central defender to be the position most in need of strengthening.

The order was as follows: Centre back (34.2pc), central midfield (28pc), striker (21.9pc), attacking midfielder (12.6pc), right winger (1.2pc), goalkeeper (0.7pc), right back (0.5pc), left winger (0.5pc) and left back (0.4pc).

That wish may be about to come true with reports stating that experienced defender Shane Duffy is set to complete a move to Norwich in the next few days.

The final recruitment-based question asked supporters how many signings were needed this summer to reshape the squad.

Half the responses stated that more than five would be needed, whilst 45.7pc stated between four and five. A minority of 4.1pc disagreed - believing two to three new signings would be sufficient this summer.

Outgoings

The flip side of recruiting talent is that City are likely to lose assets for major fees this summer.

Both Wagner and Webber have spoken about the desire to 'reinvest' to allow them to make changes to their squad. City's sporting director revealed there was already interest in midfielder Gabriel Sara whilst accepting it would be tough to keep Andrew Omobamidele and Max Aarons at the club beyond the window.

We asked City supporters who they would look to cash in on in order to aid their rebuild this summer. Respondents were permitted to choose more than one player.

The most popular player selected was Milot Rashica, currently out on loan at Galatasaray, with 93.9pc of partakers voting for the Kosovan to be one to depart Carrow Road this summer.

Interest in him is rising with both Gala and Turkish rivals Fenerbahce fighting out for his signature, according to reports. Webber admitted in his round of media that the 26-year-old was set to leave this summer.

The next most popular player selected was Aarons at 83.6pc - City fans seemingly agree with Webber's assessment that Norwich have squeezed every last ounce out of him in the last five years a fresh challenge is required.

Dimi Giannoulis completed the top three with 74.7pc of respondents selecting the Greek international to be among the departures.

Omobamidele, 42.3pc, Josh Sargent, 19pc, Sara, 11.7pc and Angus Gunn 5.2pc are the next most popular picks.

Player of the Season

Gabriel Sara was officially crowned as Norwich City's Player of the Season, with the Brazilian picking up the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy ahead of the Canaries' final day of the season defeat against Blackpool.

Kenny McLean and Max Aarons completed the top three on that particular vote.

We put the same question to City supporters - with our responses producing a different winner.

Goalkeeper Angus Gunn, who didn't make the podium in the regular vote, came out as a clear winner in our survey - taking 47.1pc of the vote. Sara was the runner-up with 28.2pc whilst McLean finished third with 14.8pc.

Mark Attanasio's involvement

It's been a year since Mark Attanasio's involvement in the club was revealed - and with the USA businessman edging closer to an increased shareholding in the club, we asked supporters what they want to see from the 65-year-old.

This was left open for supporters to answer - with a range of opinions provided.

The most popular topics included a greater level of finance being put into the club on and off the pitch, an injection of fresh ideas into the boardroom, increasing the level of accountability on those running the club and a desire for Attanasio and his group to take more control of the club - with some even expressing a desire for him to assume overall control.

Many also touched upon a willingness to step up the data-led approach, with plenty of references to how Brighton have achieved success in recent seasons under Tony Bloom's stewardship.

Hopes for next season

Regarding looking ahead to next season - we asked supporters to rank their confidence for the next campaign to be a promotion charge between one, signaling no confidence, and five, marking extreme confident.

41.3pc of responses currently ranked their optimism levels at three, with 21.6pc going one lower at two.

18pc felt significantly more positive by selecting four - whilst the extreme ends of the spectrum returned the lowest amount of responses. 14.5pc opted for no confidence at all, whilst only 4.6pc are feeling certain that City will be mounting a promotion charge next season.

A similar ranking system was used to gauge the optimism levels ahead of the return of the East Anglian Derby next season following Ipswich Town's return to the Championship.

It yielded similar results with the majority of City fans (33pc) describing their confidence levels at three out of five.

City fans are feeling more pessimistic than optimistic about the return of the derby. 27pc plumped for two out of five whilst one was the third most picked choice with 18.9pc of voters opting for a wary approach.

Those on the more positive end of the spectrum opted for four out of five 12.3pc whilst only 8.9pc went for full confidence by selecting five.

Maybe that is natural given their respective directions of travel last season - but Norwich fans will be desperate to see the 15-year unbeaten run over their neighbours continue next season.

Thoughts on Wagner, tactics and what needs to change

We asked supporters for their views on Wagner and what playing philosophy they would like to see implemented on the pitch. This was an open question where responses were invited.

Wagner has found both himself and his methods being questioned following a dismal end to the season that saw Norwich finish 23rd in the form table after winning just one of their final 11 matches.

Yet, the majority of respondents to this survey believe he is the man best-placed to lead Norwich forward, even if there were others who would prefer to see a new head coach recruited.

The words 'attacking' and 'high press' were the most regular terms used when discussing style of play - a conversation that dominated a lot of the City discourse last season under both Wagner and Dean Smith.

'High energy' and 'aggressive' were also popular terms among the responses coupled with a strong desire to improve their defensive shortcomings.

The final question on the survey invited supporters to suggest what needs to change in order for Norwich to have a more enjoyable and successful campaign next term.

Popular answers include increasing the level of confidence among the playing squad, improving home form after Norwich lost more games than they won at Carrow Road last season and introducing a stronger mentality, something Wagner and Webber are trying to amend in the window through recruiting more experienced players.

Some called for a shift in ownership, linked to the Attanasio question, whilst others felt personnel changes were needed at the top of the club after a disappointing campaign last year.
