Former Norwich City goalkeeper Jed Steer has described his 10 years at Aston Villa as "amazing" as he prepares to leave Villa Park.

The West Midlands side take on Brighton tomorrow in what will be Steer's final game at the club, before he departs at the end oh his contract on July 1.

Steer was signed by former Norwich manager Paul Lambert for Villa in 2013, having come through the Canaries' academy system from the age of nine.

He gained cult status at the club for his hand in their 2019 play-off semi-final victory over West Bromwich Albion, saving two penalties before promotion was sealed at Wembley.

He'll look back on his time with the Villains warmly, as he told Villa TV. "It's been amazing," he said. "I joined the club 10 years ago in 2013 as a 20-year-old boy, and I leave as a 30-year-old man.

"To see the club come from 2013 to where it is today has been a massive change. It's been a brilliant 10 years, full of ups and downs. That's football.

"Did I ever think I was going to be here for 10 years? Absolutely not, but I have and it's been great.

"Hopefully one day I can come back and play at Villa Park and see everyone again."

Steer has been absent with injury for more than a year, but says those struggles have made him appreciate the highs more.

"The last few years have been a bit of a rough ride with the injuries," he continued. "That happens unfortunately - that's part of the game.

"But every day I've worked hard to get better and come back. It's around this time when the play-offs are going on across the football league that I just get flooded with all those memories.

"I'd love for that to happen again, and I'd love to have another go at a play-off run. All the injuries really do make you appreciate the good times even more."
