Norwich City loanee Isaac Hayden is expected to leave parent club Newcastle United this summer, according to Magpies head coach Eddie Howe.

Hayden returned to Newcastle at the end of the Canaries’ season, having failed to meet the ‘performance-related criteria’ to make the move permanent.

He’s not part of the Tyneside club’s plans, however, after they secured qualification for the Champions League in Monday’s 0-0 draw with Dean Smith’s Leicester.

Asked about Hayden and fellow loan export Jeff Hendrick, who spent the season at Reading, Howe said: "I had those conversations with the players last year about training away from the group, only so I could control the numbers I was working with. I don't anticipate that changing to be honest.

"They've done very well and been great servants to the football club and we certainly respect them. But sometimes you need a clear break and focus on the players who will play a part in the season."

Hayden made only nine starts for Norwich after a knee injury in pre-season ruled him out until October. Further surgery on the issue then kept him absent until April’s 1-1 draw with QPR, his final appearance in yellow and green.

The 28-year-old midfielder has made 171 appearances for Newcastle, but will now be left searching for a new club.

Scottish winger Ryan Fraser could also depart St. James’ Park this summer, after a falling out with Howe left him training with United’s under-21 side.

Former Norwich wide man Jacob Murphy looks likely to be a part of those plans, however, having played 34 league games on the way to securing the “dream” of European qualification.
