Norwich City have agreed a deal to sign out of contract Burnley striker Ashley Barnes, according to reports.

Transfer expert Pete O'Rourke has claimed that the Canaries have completed an agreement with Barnes, who is a free agent when his contract at Turf Moor comes to an end this summer.

The 33-year-old was shown around City's Colney training ground prior to their final-day defeat to Blackpool on Monday, along with others that they've targeted ahead of a summer of change at Carrow Road.

Head coach David Wagner refused to be drawn when asked about Barnes following that Tangerines loss, but has been open about the club's proactivity as they look to overhaul their squad.

Stoke City and Preston North End were also interested in the forward's signature, with Middlesbrough understood to be an option if they fail to be promoted via the play-offs.

Barnes scored six Championship goals in 39 appearances last season, signing off with a goal against Cardiff as the Clarets broke the 100-point barrier for the campaign.

He's spent 10 years in Lancashire, having signed from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2013. He's made 293 appearances in that time, scoring 54 goals and earning three promotions to the Premier League.

Sporting director Stuart Webber revealed that the club were "anticipating a number of changes" during this window, after a disappointing 13th-placed finish in the second division.

Teemu Pukki, Kieran Dowell and Sam Byram have already departed with their contracts up in July, along with a number of fringe players whose deals have not been renewed.

Speaking about the temptation to add experience to his squad, who have been accused of naivety in recent times, Wagner said: "We have often spoken about how this group reacts to setbacks.

"I know that in the last weeks we had a very young squad available. If you bring in experienced players they know the situations that can happen, and they are still calm enough to maybe accept a setback and continue what we are doing.

"But it isn't the case that we are only looking for experienced players. We already have done some of our work, but it will be a very busy summer for sure."

Young Motherwell prospect Max Johnston is also understood to have been shown around Colney.
