Norwich City goalkeeper Jon McCracken has made a positive first impression on Stevenage boss Steve Evans.

The Scot, 22, has started his first three matches for the League Two promotion-chasers, keeping two clean sheets and only conceding one goal since his emergency loan move to the Lamex Stadium.

McCracken signed for the Hertfordshire-based club earlier this month after Toby Savin's loan from Accrington Stanley expired. The young City keeper has made an immediate impact.

The keeper is the latest City youngster to move to Stevenage on loan after Jonathan Tomkinson in January and Saxon Earley last summer before he was recalled by Norwich and sold to Plymouth.

Evans has previously expressed his desire to expand the club's ever-growing relationship with Norwich - McCracken's temporary move is the latest example of that co-operation.

City have a stable of young goalkeepers out on loan alongside McCracken with Archie Mair away at National League outfit Notts County, Dan Barden playing at the same level with Maidstone United whilst Sam Blair is at King's Lynn Town. Dylan Berry is on loan to non-league side St Albans City.

McCracken impressed again during a hard-fought goalless draw against automatic promotion rivals Carlisle at the weekend.

The Scot's distribution set up a number of attacks and his confidence has helped steady their backline, according to Evans.

After the result at Brunton Park, the Stevenage boss was quick to single out McCracken's contribution for special praise after the final whistle.

"Jon never felt that he was going to concede at any time," Evans told the Comet.

"And the back-four will take great confidence from such a good young goalkeeper who's has done his job for us; that’s all we ask.

"His distribution is magnificent. It gives teams a problem.

"Every time Jon hit the ball, if it was from 70 yards from their box but they were terrified because he's got the power, the strength.

"He'll learn lots from being with us for sure."
