Josh Sargent - AKA The Beast - is a must-starter for the USA in their crunch World Cup game against the Netherlands this weekend.

The Norwich City striker looks set to shake off an ankle injury in time to face the Dutch in their last-16 clash in Qatar on Saturday.

And former US international Charlie Davies is convinced Sargent must start after his performance in the 1-0 win over Iran.

“Josh Sargent was a beast,” said Davies, now a CBS Sports football analyst.

“Sargent’s hold-up play, his involvement, the runs on both sides of the ball, defending, and checking back. Josh Sargent brought his A-game – and I don't know if I would’ve picked him to play [against Iran] but after [this performance], he’s the nine.

“He didn't get a great opportunity to score, but in terms of his involvement and what he brought to the table with his unselfishness in the final third.”

Sources suggest Sargent will be fit, having rolled his ankle during the Iran game – first viewings suggested something serious, but his involvement in post-match celebrations showed those fears were unfounded.

Sargent had a scan in midweek, but the US camp have yet to reveal the results.

However, CBS Sports claim that “a source close to the player told CBS Sports that ‘Josh tentatively looks good for Saturday’.”
