It was a surprisingly calm and mild evening for our quiz night.
The room was prepped, the scorers primed, the chips were gentling frying, and nothing gave warning for the epic battle that was about to ensue.
The Forces2Canaries team were ready to complete their hat-trick, but, alas for them, and like Teemu Pukki from the penalty spot against the Blades, alas for us all, they just missed out on the acclaim and glory, finishing in third place behind Trust us and The Extratimers.
A tie-break question it was, as has become custom in recent times, the tension was palpable, the drama akin to waiting for a Mario Vrancic injury-time free-kick. A bead of sweat trickled down the brow of the croaky-voiced quiz master Michael Bailey as he read the question, the magnitude of the occasion clearly not lost on him.
Teemu Pukki has recently become the fifth all-time goal-scorer for Norwich City, but can you name the number of goals scored in total by the top five?
The answers were in, the audience waited silent, holding their breath.
Then, boom, The Extratimers smashed the ball into the back of the net to take the spoils.
Congratulations to them, commiserations to Trust Us, and thanks to all for taking part in another fantastically fun and worthwhile evening where a superb amount of cash was raised for the Community Sports Foundation.
A special mention goes out to the NCFC Bookkeepers for claiming the wooden spoon too.
Auction prizes from the night: Norwich City signed home shirt – donated by NCFC; Tim Krul signed gloves – donated by Tim Krul; suit & VIP treatment at Slaters (up to the value of £150) – donated by Simon Cheeseman of Slaters Menswear; Norwich City signed away shirt – donated by NCFC; three-course meal & glass of prosecco at Delia’s restaurant – donated by Conbano Ltd; Liam Gibbs signed boots – donated by Liam Gibbs.
The quiz was sponsored by our partners Fosters Solicitors - and we raised a whopping £3,533, so thank you so much for your amazing support.
While I have your attention, we have an exciting opportunity for you to get involved in your local community and football club while helping raise money for disadvantaged and disabled children and young adults.
We are looking for three enthusiastic Norwich City fans to join our friendly volunteer team. The roles we are looking to fill are:
Treasurer: someone to keep an eye on our bank account on a weekly basis, check and acknowledge payments and produce our accounts at the end of June annually
Social media executive: someone who can help with social media outlets (Twitter, Facebook & Instagram), advertise events, update news, publish pictures, build up our followers, keep up with trends and suggest new outlets and activities.
Website administrator: someone to assist with updating our website - they would need to have a good knowledge of WordPress and image creation/editing.
If you are interested, please email contact@ncfsc.co.uk and tell us a little about yourself, why you’d like to join, your skills, and how you think you could help us.
All the best, from the NCFSC team.
