There is no doubt that the canaries are expected to fly straight back up through the cage of the championship and into free air of the Premier League.

For now the future looks positive. Recently midfielders Alex Tettey and Wes Hoolahan have signed new deals to keep them at the club, following Cameron Jerome who had already signed a new deal.

With Newcastle and Aston Villa keeping healthy sized squads and other seasoned Championship battlers all desperate to reach the summit, without another striker, Norwich will undoubtedly struggle. The yellows grand total of goals in the league last season of 39 being meagre in relation to what will be required to achieve promotion. The yellows need a striker.

Rumours of Ross McCormack joining for £12m will be exciting fans all over Norfolk. A well-seasoned striker adapted to the rough and tumble of the championship and a similar total this season could without a doubt see Norwich into play off places and beyond, replacing those agonising misses, especially last year, with much needed goals.

As well as new signings, Norwich must hold on to their existing players. A £3m bid from West Ham for Olson was rejected, which seems positive for the management team, as there seems to be the option to keep hold of their key players.

The other player heavily linked with a move away is Robbie Brady, another player who, if held onto, will no doubt give the yellows a much needed lift before the new season, particularly after proving his worth with vital goals for Republic of Ireland in the Euros. With no known interest for the Irishman other than links in the press, things look promising in terms of holding onto him.

The Championship season is taxing, large squads are a necessity rather than a luxury. Norwich must hold onto their squad and add a proven striker such as McCormack, if so they will achieve automatic promotion.

If they don't make such a signing they may well be blown away by the spending power of Newcastle or it could be the time for other big spenders such as Wolves to knock the Canaries off their provisional perch. Come the end of the transfer window if Norwich still have their key players and sign McCormack there is no doubt Alex Neil's side will bounce straight back to the Premier League.
