Norwich City fans will have to hunt even harder for parking next season - after councillors agreed to permit restrictions in a popular matchday spot.

A number of roads in the Thorpe Hamlet area will soon be 24-hour permit zones, while Thorpe Road is to have double yellow lines added.

Alongside this provision, permit parking will be brought in on Cintra Road, Ranson Road, Stanley Avenue, part of Telegraph Lane East, Thorpe Road and Wellesley Avenue South.

The proposal came before the Norwich highways agency committee - which is made up of members of Norwich City Council and Norfolk County Council - following campaigning from residents who feared the current parking situation made life more difficult for emergency traffic.

And while the proposal was approved by the committee, chairman John Fisher acknowledged its impact on Norwich City fans.

He said: 'I would encourage a soft approach to enforcement on the first home game of the season.

'There are probably some supporters who have been parking there for up to 30 years on matchdays, so I suggest we approach it in a sensitive way.'

Mr Fisher added that he feared any penalties issued on the day of City's first home fixture would result in the council receiving backlash from motorists.

Denise Carlo, Green councillor for the Nelson, raised concerns over how the changes would impact people visiting those who lived in the area.
