Johannes Hoff Thorup is in the process of selecting a stand-in Norwich City captain with Kenny McLean in danger of adding to his three-game ban after an FA charge.
Norwich will be without the Scot for trips to Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday as well as the clash with Bristol City before the November international break after his red card for serious foul play in Sunday's 3-3 draw against Middlesbrough.
The FA subsequently charged the midfielder with 'acting improperly' after allegedly using abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official after his dismissal. The punishment could include an additional suspension plus a potential fine.
That will leave City requiring another player to take the armband in McLean's absence. Defender Shane Duffy is a prime contender, but Thorup has yet to reach a decision ahead of the weekend's trip to South Wales.
"We are still in the process of making a leadership group within the team," Thorup said. "The player that we're going to choose to be the captain on Saturday will be one of the players who are in that leadership group.
"We haven't fully decided that yet and we actually need to hear what some of the players think because we have to make sure it's some of the experienced players but also some of the younger ones that we can build on.
"Shane [Duffy] could be a good option for us with his recent form and stuff like that, so that's definitely an option."
That process of constructing a leadership group will be collaborative alongside City's dressing room as well as input from the coaching team and forms part of Thorup's long-term strategy at Carrow Road.
"I obviously plan to be here for quite a long time, so it's not something that we started with from day one. We, as coaches, needed to get a feeling for how the individuals work and what type of personalities they have.
"It's a fact that Grant [Hanley] is the club captain, and he will stay like that, and Kenny is the vice-captain. Those two will be a part of that group and then we have to find the right balance with young and experienced players, positions on the pitch and different personalities.
"We are in that process and players will be heard in this and have a say," said Thorup. "We are about to shape that group and find out.
"You will see a little bit of it when we choose the captain on Saturday."
