David Wagner had his say on the key issues after Norwich City's 5-1 Championship hammering at Middlesbrough.

City capitulated in embarrassing fashion on Teesside, as rampant Boro ruthlessly swept the Canaries aside on Friday night.

The German spoke exclusively to the Pinkun after the defeat at the Riverside

Here is what he had to say.

Initial reaction

Very disappointing. I think we made some, or a lot, of horrendous mistakes. In front of both goals. We had some great opportunities at 0-0 and when we were 1-0 down, we have to use them. Goals change games.

As we have seen. We concede the second one, when Sam McCallum is out of the game, and to be totally honest we lost our heads. We made a quick free kick where we shouldn’t do it, we made a quick throw in, where we shouldn’t do it, and concede two further goals.

This is what disappoints me a lot. You cannot do individual mistakes like we have done, but if you do, you have to show a calmness and stay in the game. This is what we haven’t done. And why we conceded a heavy defeat.

What is your over-riding emotion? Anger? Embarrassment?

A little bit of everything to be fair. We were more in the game than the scoreline suggested but we made it too easy for Boro. We made defensive mistakes and didn’t use our chances. This is the story of this game.

If you produce the mistakes we did, and you don’t use your chances, then you shouldn’t complain a penalty situation, or hitting the post. It was all about us. We have not individually performed or reacted as we should have done.

What can you say to those 600-odd travelling fans?

It was great they were here. But we gave them nothing to cheer about. This makes it even more disappointing that they made this long journey and we gave them nothing to cheer. But what I would say is the last few away games have been quite good, especially defensively.

We looked very solid at Stoke, Blackburn, even Huddersfield. But, again, in this game I hope it was a one off in how we defended. Now it is all about keeping the head up and moving forward to the next opportunity. Also an away game at QPR. We can and we have to do it better.
