Sunderland midfielder Luke O’Nien has admitted he was trying to wind up Jacob Sorensen when kissing him during the Black Cats 1-0 win over Norwich City.

O’Nien had an altercation with the Dane in the second half of the meeting between the sides three weeks ago, and was captured on camera giving him a quick kiss.

Tony Mowbray’s side are currently 11th in the Championship, and face Burnley this evening as they look to boost their play-off hopes.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, O’Nien said of the incident: “So many people have asked this, I don’t know (why I did it). No one goes into a game and plans to kiss someone, do they?

“As players we try to wind each other up, and normally people do it down the aggressive route.

“I tried an alternative route, and I think it worked a little bit.”
