I was asked a question recently on how it affects the harmony within the squad when there’s a few players’ contracts up for renewal at the end of this season.

There’s quite a lot of uncertainty about the place with the likes of Teemu Pukki, Kieran Dowell and Onel Hernandez’s contracts due to expire at the end of June.

In all honesty, I don’t think it affects the spirit in the changing room one bit. It never did when I played; we simply got on with doing our jobs.

Players are quite selfish. They look after number one and there’s nothing any other player at Norwich can do for those out of contract players so why worry?

If the club wants to keep the trio I’ve mentioned then they will do their utmost to persuade them to sign a new deal. If the club thinks their futures lie elsewhere then then they will leave the football club.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Teemu, Kieran and Onel already have a few irons in some fires. I’m sure their agents have already spoken to a few clubs about their availability and what’s happening at Norwich City.

The only time I’ve ever felt anxious about my contract coming to an end was here at Norwich. The longer it went on without communication between myself and the football club I accepted that the writing was on the wall and my days as a Norwich City player were coming to an end. But I knew that that was the nature of the business; I just got on with my job in those last few weeks.

Someone asked me after the Huddersfield draw, how come City’s performances can be so inconsistent? How can the team go to Millwall, perform like they did, then perform so disappointingly up at The John Smith’s Stadium?

My answer was a simple “that's the nature of the Championship”. It is one of, if the most, competitive leagues in the world. Mind you, there are so many teams that have lacked consistency this season. Apart from Burnley, Sheffield United (even they’ve lost four of their last six) and Middlesbrough since Michael Carrick took over.

So, do I think Norwich will finish in the top six? I’ve said ‘yes’ all along, but I must admit, I’m starting to waver. I look at three of the next four games against Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Blackburn and they don’t get any tougher. No one is catching Burnley and I’ve a feeling the hunter Middlesbrough will pip the hunted Sheff Utd to second.

Who will win the play-offs? For once I’m going to stick to my guns and stick with Norwich City, but they need to start performing at a much higher level than they have in those last three games.

Talking of guns, what a few days it’s been for Angus. He made his debut for Scotland against Cyprus, kept a clean sheet before earning his second cap on Tuesday night against the mighty Spain and got another shut-out. I think Angus has more clean sheets for Scotland in two games than his old man kept his entire career! Only joking obviously Gunny!

Angus will come back full of confidence. I think he went north of the border quietly confident after the season that he’s had. It must have been a massive help to him having Grant Hanley and Kenny McLean in the Scottish squad with him. It would have helped him massively settle down amongst his new team-mates. There’s nothing worse than walking into a new changing room and you’re the new kid on the block. It’s always a huge relief when you walk in and there’s a couple of familiar faces in there.
