Spain suffered their first European Championship Qualifying defeat since 2014 at the hands of Scotland on Tuesday night, with Norwich City trio Angus Gunn, Grant Hanley and Kenny McLean all featuring in the famous win.

A brace from Scott McTominay was enough to secure a second successive Euro 2024 qualifying victory for Steve Clarke's men. It was Scotland's first victory over the 2010 World Champions since 1984.

The Manchester United midfielder scored a second successive double to leave Hampden Park bouncing as they raced to the top of their qualification table and became the only side in Group A to have extracted maximum points from their opening two matches.

Gunn faced a barrage of activity throughout the game but made a good stop to deny Joselu's free header as well as touching a strike from Tottenham Hotspur full-back Pedro Porro over the bar soon after.

After the interval, he held Rodri's shot and was booked in the 76th minute for wasting time. Gunn has now kept consecutive clean sheets in his first two matches as Scotland's number one goalkeeper.

Grant Hanley played the entirety of the contest and drew praise for his role in marshalling Joselu out of the contest. City's captain stood firm as the Espanyol striker looked for a penalty in the second half.

Kenny McLean replaced Ryan Christie for the final 15 minutes as Clarke sought to inject some fresh energy into his side to see out the victory.

Elsewhere, Christos Tzolis netted a fine volley for Greece U21s earlier in the day as they recorded a 1-1 draw with Belarus in their qualification for the U21s European Championships.

The City winger connected with Vasilios Sourlis from the right and guided the ball into the far corner of the net to give his side the lead after 11 minutes.

Tzolis' side were pegged back in the second half when FC Minsk defender Maksim Kasarab equalised for the visitors. The City winger will now return to Colney hoping to remain in David Wagner's thoughts for Saturday's visit of Sheffield United.

Max Aarons came off the bench but failed to prevent England U21s from being beaten 2-1 against Croatia at Craven Cottage this evening.

In their final friendly before this summer's U21 Euros, Aarons replaced Leicester left-back Luke Thomas in the 65th minute and operated at left back for the final 30 minutes of the contest.
