Abu Kamara is hoping to play a key role in helping Portsmouth secure promotion back to the Championship tonight.

Pompey require a single point from their last three matches to return to the second tier for the first time since 2012 and win League One as champions.

Kamara has played a key role in John Mousinho's side this season and is expected to start at Fratton Park tonight as they bid to finish the job. They are currently on a 16-game unbeaten run and have only lost on four occasions this season.

For the Norwich City loan export, it has been the experience he required for his development - recording 18 goal contributions in 43 League One matches. Kamara says they'll approach the decisive clash with confidence but not complacency.

“All the boys know it’s just one point needed for us to go up, so we want to go out there and put on a performance for the fans," Kamara told Pompey's official channels.

“We could have done it on Saturday, but I think most people would take a draw at Bolton in any other scenario.

“It would have been nice to finish the job there, although now there’s an opportunity for us to do that at Fratton Park.

“Barnsley are a tough side, though – they’re position in the table shows that. They’re not just going to turn up and let us walk all over them.

“We’re going to have to turn up and produce a good performance if we want to come away with a positive result.

“But we back ourselves in every game – whether it’s home or away – and nothing’s going to change that.”

Pompey squandered their first opportunity to secure a Championship space next season by failing to beat Bolton at the weekend, with Kamara on the scoresheet for the eighth time this term.

“It’s not too bad, but I always want more goals and assists, so hopefully I can still add to that before the end of the season," City's loan export said.

“It was probably one of the best I’ve scored on Saturday and I was pleased with the little reverse finish.”
